A versatile laser cut micro-layout / diorama MDF baseboard, which is suitable for use as a fiddle yard add-on for our BB018 Baseboards, as a standalone photo plank or DCC Programming Track. A single baseboard has enough space to fit a single length of OO scale track up to 400mm in length. Additional baseboards can be joined together to create a longer run; a twin pack will give a run of 800mm.

Fixings and spacers to join multiple boards together, and blank end sections are also included to allow the board to be used as a standalone plinth for displaying individual locomotives, model cars & motorbikes etc.

Laser Cut from 4mm Formaldehyde free MDF.

BB022 Twin Track Photo Plank 400mm x 150mm

My first purchase from SMS for a lockdown project. A quality product and easy to assemble .

Photo plank/fiddle yard baseboards

Needed to find a suitable baseboard structure for two 'lift out' sections across a doorway and window as my initial attempt proved to be prone to distortion in the timber used. Thus elected to give these units a go - 2 units bolted together to give an 800mm span. Very easy to assemble and gave nice light and rigid 400mm boards. I used the spacers and bolts supplied to make a 800mm x 100mm span and a 800 x 150 ditto. What I found was that the 2 x 100mm boards retained their flat profile better than the 150mm did, The 150mm boards tended to sag in the middle slightly so I will need to stiffen them up a bit with some longitudinal bracing across the joint. This is really to do with me using the units as drop into place sections between adjoining fixed baseboards rather than it being a problem with the baseboard units themselves. So, very satisfied so far and I hope that when the track goes into place I will remain so, and I would recommend these units for the advertised purpose. I have tried to adapt them slightly to form lift out sections which is maybe pushing my luck a little.
