Applications & Usage On Your OO Scale Model Railway
The building is modelled on a 1:1 prototype located at Denas Water just outside Truro in Cornwall and while we're not 100% sure of its original or current use, it's definitely light-industrial. It's a relatively generic design with stone construction and a substantial brick chimney which enables it to be used in a wide variety of locations on your model railway. From industrial scenes to mining, railway & farming and the optional chimney gives the perfect opportunity to position a furnace or kiln at the back of the building.
Primarily designed as a machine shop, it could house lathes, pedestal drills & milling machines used in steel fabrication making parts for the mining industry and railways. It would sit lovely alongside an engine shed!
The flexibility to choose between door designs, wall finish & chimney gives you, the modeller lots of choices to build it just as you'd like it to be, fitting in perfectly with its surroundings.
Laser Cut Components For Ease Of Assembly
The KX088-OO Pearces Workshop Kit comes with laser-cut MDF, card & laserboard components for ease of assembly, coupled with pre-weathered paper wraps in brick & stone finishes. The only parts that need painting in the kit are the windows, doors & bargeboards. For the prototype build, these were given a coat of stone colour acrylic from a spray can, followed by dry-brushed burnt sienna, slate grey & white artists acrylic to give the woodwork a nicely weathered finish. A little dark green acrylic was then dry brushed along the base of the doors and a little black around the hinges just to highlight them a little.
Pre-weathered slates then finish the build giving the building a realistically better finish straight from the pack.
