Our versatile OO/HO scale Low Relief 1930s Factory kit is typical of many old factories seen all around the UK and is ideal for use as a lineside feature at the back or side of your layout up against a backscene. This particular model is based on the real-life Mitchell Grieve factory in a mining town in the Midlands and was once a bakery. At just 57mm wide, this kit is perfect for limited spaces.
The kit comes with step-by-step instructions and uses high-resolution, pre-weathered photo-realistic paper wraps over the sturdy MDF structure, leaving no unsightly cut card edges visible when construction is complete.
Constructed from English bond red brick with contrasting stonework, the building features tall, multi-paned windows that flood the factory with light and allow ventilation through the extractor fan. A practical flat roof with subtle details like nameplate, date stone, and simple decorative brickwork bring authenticity and charm, while spacious interiors reflect the functional layout of workshops, storage, and offices. Perfect for adding character and history to any railway, industrial, or urban layout/diorama.
This kit is a complete re-build and upgrade of the old card kit we did over 10+ years ago, utilising all the skills and techniques we've learnt over the years. We've upgraded the entire structure from card to MDF and laserboard, making the overall building much more durable to stand the test of time. We didn't stop there - we've upgraded many of the original features too, resulting in a better, more realistic quality finish.
Now with glazed, easy-to-install, layered laser-cut windows (complete with weathering), this 1930s factory kit in OO scale will be a real talking point on your layout. This is a kit for the real enthusiast who loves the experience of building kits to detail their layouts.
The wall coping is now much simpler to assemble with the new design, and the additional downspouts add further detail and realism to the finished building.
We've also added a rear wall sheet finished in white painted brick, which can be used to cover your layout backscene if you're going to fit lighting to the building interior.
