Lifecolor Paints
Without almost any exception, all the items we add to our model railway layouts, or diecast dioramas will need some form of paint applied. Base colours, quite often enamel, could be applied with a brush or airbrush, to colour a new kit or enhance a proprietary model. To add weathering or shading, until fairly recently this meant carefully dry-brushing or mixing/thinning paint. Whilst this was fine for single painting sessions, it was much harder to replicate the same shades for subsequent modelling. Nowadays, however, there are lots of paint shades, washes and pigments available to provide a supply of consistent quality and colour to enhance those model items. Lifecolor paints are one of the best ranges of versatile airbrush and manual brush paints currently available. |

Acrylic paint sets
Dilute colour preferably with Lifecolour Thinner or, lacking this, with water until reaching a thickness similar to milk. When pouring the mixture colour must not fall in drops or lumps but it has to flow easily and softly. Do not dilute Lifecolor with other substances or thinners of other brands because the mixture obtained could not be lasting and could spoil the colour left in the pot. When using a colour from an old already used pot it is advisable to filter the product. To paint easily long and thins lines with an airbrush it is important to dilute the colour with Lifecolor Thinner which contains special dispersants and to fix air pressure at the minimum. A less quantity of air avoids the colour drying on the needle of the airbrush while painting.
Painting with a brush does not need any special tricks. Remember that with acrylic colours it is better to apply many diluted coats instead of denser ones.
Clean brushes and air brush immediately after use. Possible marks of dry colour can be removed by airbrush with trychloroethylene or similar solvents. Lifecolor Thinners does not remove colour when dry.
Lichens & Moss sets
These paints provide the green colouring for the dampness and vegetation growth at the base of buildings.
Wood paint sets
Airbrush: Use the Lifecolor Thinner and dilute the colour with a ratio of 1:1. Adjust the pressure between 0.8 - 1.5 bar. Less air prevents the paint from drying out on the needle. For best results, apply more colour at regular intervals, during breaks it is recommended to clean the air brush and remove any residual colour. After use, clean well with plenty of water or with the dedicated Lifecolor Cleaner.
Brush: Lightly dilute the paint with water and apply several coats of colour. to get more realistic colour shades the use of a wet palette is recommended. After use, clean well with plenty of water or with the dedicated Lifecolor Cleaner.
Liquid Pigment sets
Shake well before use. These paints provide the highlights and shadows to really bring your models to life. The Liquid Pigments can be mixed together in order to obtain new colours. The Liquid Pigments can be applied by brush, airbrush or any way you prefer. Once applied, the Liquid Pigments can be removed, partially or completely, from the treated surfaces using a brush or cotton bud moistened in the Remover. If just applied, you can remove the Liquid Pigments with just water, however the use of 'Remover' is always recommended because it is also able to completely eliminate the very dark stains or blots from light surfaces.
Preferably, use the Liquid Pigments on satin or gloss surfaces. Applying a second coat with a different liquid Pigments colour on the same area, the Liquid Pigments will be mixed together. In order to avoid that, please seal the work with a thin coat of transparent satin paint (Lifecolor LC77). The locked work will no longer be removable with Remover.
Use with a brush: Apply Liquid Pigments pure or diluted with water as you prefer. To highlight panel lines lightly moisten with water and touch the corners of the junction, or follow the groove with a fine brush dipped in the chosen Liquid Pigments. The excess Liquid Pigments can be removed completely or faded out with a brush. The Liquid Pigments can also be used as a filter for modulating light or dark areas on a surface.
Using an airbrush: Apply Liquid Pigments with an airbrush without adding water and remove or correct the product amount with brushes or other instruments moistened with Remover. It is also possible to move or accumulate the Liquid Pigments on a surface by spraying it away with the airbrush using the Remover or blowing air only on the Liquid Pigments before it has dried.
Use with the sponge (chipping): Moisten the sponge or similar in the Liquid Pigments, discharge the excess product on paper and apply on the model.
