Thanks for the review on these Steve. They’re designed to be thin so they can be slotted into the grooves in our fence posts.
When you glue the panels back to back as described in the instructions they’re 0.5mm thick which in real life would be 38mm.
The panels they’re modelled on are 45mm thick which when scaled down to OO means our panels are just 0.1mm thinner than they should be to be exactly true to scale. So they’d only need a piece of copier paper gluing between them to make them exactly true to scale.
The panels are laser cut with a printed surface. We could engrave the surface but to get them true to scale would send the price totally through the roof. And then there’s the subject of scale. The slats on a real life fence are 4 to 5mm thick. In OO that would be 0.05mm which is pretty close to flat. Hence the reason why we print them. If we engraved them, the production time would be insane and the price as a result would be similar to that of real panels.
