Scale Comparison: 20mm wargaming scale is generally 1:72, while 4mm railway scale (OO gauge) is 1:76. This means 20mm wargaming/1:72 scale figures and models are just slightly larger than railway OO scale — a 6-foot person in 1:72 stands around 25mm tall, compared to about 24mm in 1:76.
Wargaming & Railway Compatibility: As the two scales are so close, military modellers and wargamers often mix 1:72 and 1:76 models, vehicles, and scenery on the same tabletop. They appear visually consistent, making them ideal for crossover use in both wargaming terrain and model railway layouts.
