A versatile OO gauge dutch barn laser cut building kit, suitable for any farm scene on your OO scale model railway layout or can be repurposed as a saw mill, stores or goods shed for railway or industrial use. The design is typical of steel framed Dutch Barns seen all over the British Isles, with detailed steel frame and rusty, black painted corrugated iron. It makes a great partner to any of our OO gauge farm buildings (opens in a new tab).

Based on a real Dutch Barn down on the Roseland, not far from our factory, this barn captures the essence of a traditional barn that's been exposed to the elements for many years.

The walls of the OO gauge barn are finished with our unique TX104-OO rusty, painted corrugated iron texture for a realistically better finish straight from the pack. And the base is wrapped in weathered concrete paper. All textures are supplied pre-weathered, only the framework will need painting & weathering. We used a dark brown acrylic spray then brushed it over with rust coloured weathering powder while the paint was still a little tacky.

Components apart from the paper wraps are supplied pre-cut for ease of assembly. The barn isn't really suitable for a beginner as there are some small, delicate parts. But if you take your time with the assembly you will be rewarded with a very detailed building once complete.

There is an abundance of opportunities for customization with this OO gauge building kit. You can leave either end wall off, leaving one side and one end open for a more derelict look (or more accessible stores / saw mill building).

OO Gauge Dutch Barn - Key Features

Must have for every layout!

The fine detail and overall look was exactly what I was looking for and I’ve not been disappointed. Take your time with the curved roof, I didn’t get it quite right, but it looks ok. This item will been on my next monthly review on my YouTube channel. Kingscleremodelrailway, where I will go into further details.

Realistic model with excellent detail. Verified Purchase

This was my first SMS kit and it was a joy to build. I was impressed by the skill that went into the design. The detail in all the small parts is amazing and everything slotted into place perfectly. In order to simplify the addition of the texture sheets I copied them onto A4 sticky labels. Perhaps something for SMS to think about? I now look forward to building my second model just received.

A fun kit to build

A fun kit to build, take your time and a great building is the end result. The video on the scale model scenery website is helpful and I would recommend the use of glue applicator bottle so you can control the amount of glue you apply. Rust powder is something I hadn't used previously but does lift the model.

Versatile model

Well made with a good print quality. Made this model as an open shed ver sturdy for a laser cut model. As my model was going at the front of my railway I replaced the very well printed roof with corrugated plastic sheet cut into scale 8x4 ft sheets which will be airbrushed to give the same weathered effect but with just that extra touch of relief I felt it could have. Bat once again as it stands in it's manufactured condition a mighty fine model. Not for little children to play with.

An ideal addition to any farm scene.

I really enjoy building your kits. the detail you achieve with Lazer cutting is amazing and the finished building is very robust. I have actually brought kits that I feel I will enjoy building and worry about finding a spot for it on the layout when I have completed it! Would love to see a kit of a canal side building with a barrel roof which would not be dissimilar to the Dutch barn roof. Very Best regards, Mike

To be very careful with it as it is very fragile.

Looks very impressive when completed.

Wonderful Kit Verified Purchase

What an excellent kit this is. Clear and precise step by step instructions and illustrations Parts easily released from sheets and assembles well with the use of the recommended adhesive. The finished result is a lifelike model of the timber importers sheds seen at so many small coastal docks. A thoroughly recommended kit and supplier.

Another great kit worthy of any busy farm, have to be very careful of fragile parts, suggest build frame then paint before cladding.

I found this one to be a lot more difficult to build than I had expected, but the end result still looks quite good. It's certainly not a kit for somebody new to building these kits having a lot of very thin parts to put together. But to be fair, having arthritis in my hands didn't help very much.

Superb kit, very finely detailed and a pleasure to put together, but don't rush. In fact, you can...

Nothing not to like.
