How To Use The Gaugemaster GM193 Puffer Bottle

This video from Phil Parker at BRM magazine shows how to achieve great results with the low cost Gaugemaster GM193 Static Grass Puffer Bottle. Layering a number of shades of static grass creates some very realistic grassed areas.

Using a static grass puffer bottle is a simple four step process:

  1. Apply static grass glue or PVA to the area to be covered
  2. Half fill the bottle with the shade and length of static grass desired
  3. Shake to build up the static charge
  4. Puff & shake the GM193 Puffer Bottle to release the grass onto desired area

Advanced Static Grass Tips

As shown in the video, layering the grass helps create a very realistic finish. Choose grasses of different shades and lengths to achieve a rich, layered effect just as mother nature does. Hair spray makes a great glue for layering static grass. Extra-hold, unperfumed is perfect for the job. Alternatively you can mix the grasses in the applicator itself before you apply it to get a layered effect.

  1. Apply a layer of shorter grass (1mm or 2mm) in Eden or lighter green to represent new growth
  2. Apply a second layer of Evergreen or Khaki in the same or a slightly longer length (2-4mm) to represent more mature growth
  3. Apply a third layer of longer straw colour to represent longer, more mature, dry grass for summer & autumn scenes.

Fix the grass in position with a generous coating of hairspray.
