The ST-100 gives you everything needed to build a complete oval layout with a passing loop and sidings — no soldering, no complex wiring, just clip together and run. PECO's nickel silver Code 100 Setrack is a genuine step up from basic train set track, and it's built to last for decades of expansion.

• Nickel silver rails for better conductivity and far less cleaning over time
• Insulfrog turnouts mean no short-circuit wiring headaches straight out of the box
• 2nd Radius curves (438mm) suit the vast majority of modern OO/HO locomotives
• Fully compatible with Hornby and Bachmann Code 100 track for future expansion

A Proper Foundation for Your First Layout

If you've got a locomotive and a controller but no track to run them on, the ST-100 is the obvious place to start. It's PECO's Setrack starter set built around 2nd Radius geometry — a sensible, practical choice that works with most modern OO and HO gauge rolling stock without fuss.

The fixed-geometry Setrack system means every piece clips together cleanly and stays put. No measuring, no cutting, no guessing. What you get is a reliable oval layout with a passing loop and sidings, ready to run in an afternoon.

What's in the Box

The ST-100 contains a well-thought-out selection of track pieces, turnouts, and accessories:

  • Straights:
    3 x ST-200 Standard
    5 x ST-201 Double
    1 x ST-202 Short
  • Curves:
    3 x ST-225 2nd Radius Standard
    7 x ST-226 2nd Radius Double
  • Turnouts:
    1 x ST-240 Right Hand
    1 x ST-241 Left Hand
  • Accessories:
    2 x ST-270 Sleeper-built Buffer Stops
    2 x ST-271 Decoupling Units
    1 x ST-273 Power Connecting Clips
  • STP-00 Setrack Planbook — a genuinely useful booklet with instructions and alternative layout ideas

The rail joiners (fishplates) come pre-fitted, so there's nothing fiddly to sort before you get going.

Nickel Silver Rail — Worth Noting

PECO uses nickel silver for the ST-100's Code 100 rail, and it makes a real difference in everyday running. Nickel silver resists tarnish and corrosion far better than steel track, which means less time with a track rubber and more time actually running trains. It's one of those details that separates this from cheaper alternatives, and you notice it fairly quickly.

Insulfrog Turnouts — Simple Wiring, Sensible Design

The included ST-240 and ST-241 turnouts are Insulfrog type — the crossing vee is electrically isolated (plastic), which keeps things simple for beginners. No risk of short circuits at the frog, and no need for additional isolating sections to park a second locomotive in a siding.

The other thing worth mentioning is PECO's over-centre spring mechanism. The turnout snaps firmly into position and stays there — no external lever required for basic hand operation. It's a small thing, but it's one less piece of hardware to worry about when you're just getting started.

Space and Compatibility

The default layout requires approximately 1630 x 990mm (around 64 x 39 inches) of baseboard space — worth measuring before you commit. The 2nd Radius curves at 438mm suit the majority of modern OO/HO locomotives comfortably.

Because the ST-100 uses standard Code 100 rail, it connects directly with Hornby and Bachmann track. If you're expanding an existing Hornby set, or planning to mix and match, it all fits together without adaptors. And if you want to grow further, the ST-100 pairs very neatly with the ST-101 3rd Radius Starter Set to create a double-track main line — two trains running independently on the same layout.

Built to Expand, Not to Outgrow

PECO's Setrack and Streamline systems have been around for decades, and the parts haven't become obsolete. Whatever you build with the ST-100 today, you can keep adding to it — more sidings, a goods yard, a branch line. It's a system that grows with your ambitions rather than boxing you in.
