KX118-OO Jack's Hut - OO/4mm/1:76 is a versatile, small, brick-built hut for enhancing industrial, dockside & railway scenes on your model railway layouts and diecast dioramas. Based on a small lean-to type hut at the end of Charlestown Harbour in Cornwall, it's a simple design with a million and one uses. With its simple, sloped roof, it works as both a standalone building, or as a lean-to at the side of a larger building, like Tony's Cart Shed or Wright's Lockup.
Supplied with white-painted, heavily weathered brick and plain red brick finishes, Jack's hut will fit into pretty much any scene. Need a small weighbridge hut? This is just the job! Harbour office? You got it! The hut also features white painted red brick interior wall finishes with flaking paint and other dirt & grime.
The roof features heavily weathered cement board/asbestos-style corrugated effect paper roof with lots of moss, lichen and general weathering, and for a more modern touch, there's also a steel security grille supplied to fit over the door to keep the hooligans out.
The kit is supplied with laser-cut parts for ease of assembly with no additional painting or weathering required for a "Realistically Better" finish straight from the pack. The window, door & laserboard parts can be quickly and easily painted & weathered with acrylic paints. We used a matt white acrylic primer for our doors and window frames, which we then dry-brushed with burnt umber, buff & slate grey artists' acrylics to create a weathered wood look.
Additional detail is then added to finish the building with downspouts & bargeboards. All of which are optional so you can choose the level of detail you wish to have on your hut.

A very nice kit - not the most complex, but very satisfying.
My first ever laser kit for a small shelf layout. I thoroughly enjoyed my first build. The kit is precise and easy to build. The texture wrap gives a good finish and once weathered and sealed with a coat of matt lacquer the job is done. I would recommend without hesitation and will definitely be getting some more kits, just for the pleasure of the build.
Super little kit, very easy to put together, super instructions. The wraps are wonderful although as it is so small the internal wraps are not really needed, I left them off. The kind of building that can go anywhere.
I was looking for some small buildings to go on a narrow (9" wide) shelf layout. I've never built a laser kit before and thought this would be a great start. The kit was precisely cut and the shell goes snugly and accurately together in minutes. The paper wraps take a little more time but give a very good finish, and there is a choice of two finishes, a tired white render or weathered brick. There's also a choice of roof finishes too.
