One of our favourite plans, as this is based on Newquay harbour, which is just over 10 miles away as the crow flies.
Although, in reality, the tracks on Newquay harbour were reached down a steep, rope-hauled incline, this plan assumes access and shunting was done by small steam locos. The prototypical tunnel is retained, providing a perfect exit to the hidden sidings, and the unusual stone quay reached by a wooden trestle is also depicted.
The hidden sidings use a PECO loco lift (SL-43) to maximise the siding space, and the scenic area has a shunting loop and several sidings to create operational interest.
Buildings Suggestions
The low cliffs behind the harbour are dotted with several small cottages, which can be included if the backscene is pushed back from the cliff edge. On the harbour itself, a single workshop and a couple of small sheds, along with several small dinghies and piles of lobsterpots, will nicely fill the minimal area available.
