We've taken the very first kit we released just over 10 years ago and completely rebuilt it from the ground up, using all of the new materials we have access to, and the techniques we've developed over the years. Now with layered laser cut windows, brand-new, hand-rendered photorealistic wall textures and pre-weathered roof slates, the KX120-OO Victorian Ale House/Country Pub kit in OO scale will be a real talking point on your layout. This is a kit for the real enthusiast that loves the experience of building kits to detail their layouts.

Based on the real Red River Inn in Gwithian Cornwall, we've stayed as faithful as we can to the original while making it an enjoyable build. The pub complex is supplied as three individual buildings: main pub, annex and village shop, which can be positioned as per the real thing (see arrangement in the photos), or separately on your layout in any arrangement to suit the space available.

The window fitments now use an easy-fit method to install them, making them much quicker to assemble while still giving you the appearance of real wooden sash windows. All the windows are glazed (acetate supplied) allowing you to detail the interior should you wish.

The doors on all of the buildings can be posed open, closed or anywhere in between, and feature engraved, layered detail. There's also a selection of wall and door signage to add that extra finishing touch, including a pavement board advertising home-cooked food.

Also included is a selection of drains and cellar doors to add further detail if required.

Key Features:

  • Glazed, layered sash windows
  • Pre-printed photorealistic stone paper wraps for all wall finishes
  • Pre-weathered roof slates for a realistically aged finish
  • Engraved and layered doors and gates
  • Downpipes and drains
  • Cobblestone yard and stone wall included for the beer garden or car park
  • Scalloped bargeboards
  • Laser cut pavement sections for the front of the pub
  • Signage and pavement board accessories also included!

Dimensions:

  • Main Pub: L: 168mm x W: 69mm x H: 120mm
  • Annex: L: 45mm x W: 33mm x H: 50mm
  • Shop: L: x 60mm W: 33mm x H: 50mm
  • Total area required if configured like the real thing: L: 288mm x W: 188mm

Construction

  • Laser-cut MDF and laserboard core parts for accuracy, allowing quick and easy construction
  • Full colour texture layers printed onto 100gsm photo-quality laser paper
  • Acetate supplied for the windows
  • Step-by-step, full colour photographic instructions included.
  • Watch all our construction tips: Building A Scale Model Scenery Laser Cut Kit

Paint (we recommend acrylic and permanent marker pens)
    Sanding Board & Assembly Jig

A Kit For Advanced Modellers

While most of the aspects of this kit are straightforward, we would only recommend this kit if you have prior experience of building our kits, do to the number of small parts. Some trimming and adjustments may also be needed during the application of the roof slates etc. due to material tolerances and your preferred method of construction.

Spare slates and windows are also included, just in case you need them!

Customers praised this Victorian-style model kit for its "excellent quality," detailed design, and straightforward assembly. Many noted it's "well designed and an enjoyable kit to make" with great value. The upgraded version impressed builders. One customer reported a minor manufacturing issue with part alignment requiring a workaround.

Excellent quality kits

This is a classic kit and great value for money. I'm using this to make a diorama of a pub scene and the fact that it includes a rear yard in the kit is excellent. Also bought a few bits from the extensive range of accessories, so really looking forward to starting this over winter!

Excellent model, straightforward to build.

I built the original card model for the Famous Trains layout in Derby. That is still an excellent model. This new version is however an exceptional model. Maybe not for a beginner, it assembles in a straightforward way, like all the Scale Model Scenery models and makes up into a realistic and well detailed structure. It has been a pleasure to build and I look forward to adding it to my own loft layout, when it gets a bit warmer.

As with all SMC kits, this is well designed and an enjoyable kit to make. I had the original card kit and was delighted to be able yo upgrade and customise the model.

Slight manufacturing error

I am at present building this kit and by and large I am very impressed with the quality and detail of this kit. However, I have come across a slight problem that has confounded me and possibly other builders. On sheet 1 with it face up, ie. the kit number and sheet number facing upwards, I have assumed the cutouts (facing upwards) to be the outside surface on which the stone work sheets are to be stuck and built the structure accordingly. When it came to sticking the covering on I realised that the rear (pt6) should have been turned over with the outside face (my assumption) facing inwards. I had read the instructions carefully before startin building but found no reference to the fact that pt6 needed turning over before gluing in. This has left me with a rear covering that now does not line up corretly with thhe door and a window out of line. I can find a work around without spoiling the overall appearance of the building. Maybe you could reverse the printing of pt 6 on sheet one so that it falls in line with the other cutouts. Just a thought!! Carry on the excellent work you are doing and Happy New Year.

I have not constructed the country pub yet but could not resist openiing it up to have a gander. It does not disapoint it is of the same very high standard one comes to expect from this great company. Would again recommend these products to one and all. Very interesting kit. Not started on it yet but am looking forward to getting stuck in during January (after the silly season).

More challenging than past models I've had from you, and a long way from being completed, mostly because I don't spend much time working on it each day. Like you said the windows took up more time than usual, and I've reached the stage of putting the roof tiles on the pub, and I expect that to take over a few days. However, I am enjoying building it.
