Our versatile OO/HO scale Low Relief 1930s Factory kit is typical of many old factories seen all around the UK and is ideal for use as a lineside feature at the back or side of your layout up against a backscene. This particular model is based on the real-life Mitchell Grieve factory in a mining town in the Midlands and was once a bakery. At just 57mm wide, this kit is perfect for limited spaces.

The kit comes with step-by-step instructions and uses high-resolution, pre-weathered photo-realistic paper wraps over the sturdy MDF structure, leaving no unsightly cut card edges visible when construction is complete.

Constructed from English bond red brick with contrasting stonework, the building features tall, multi-paned windows that flood the factory with light and allow ventilation through the extractor fan. A practical flat roof with subtle details like nameplate, date stone, and simple decorative brickwork bring authenticity and charm, while spacious interiors reflect the functional layout of workshops, storage, and offices. Perfect for adding character and history to any railway, industrial, or urban layout/diorama.

This kit is a complete re-build and upgrade of the old card kit we did over 10+ years ago, utilising all the skills and techniques we've learnt over the years. We've upgraded the entire structure from card to MDF and laserboard, making the overall building much more durable to stand the test of time. We didn't stop there - we've upgraded many of the original features too, resulting in a better, more realistic quality finish.

Now with glazed, easy-to-install, layered laser-cut windows (complete with weathering), this 1930s factory kit in OO scale will be a real talking point on your layout. This is a kit for the real enthusiast who loves the experience of building kits to detail their layouts.

The wall coping is now much simpler to assemble with the new design, and the additional downspouts add further detail and realism to the finished building.

We've also added a rear wall sheet finished in white painted brick, which can be used to cover your layout backscene if you're going to fit lighting to the building interior.

Wonderful model for the background of my layout. The print is photorealistic and suitably grimy. The layers can be a bit fiddly to line up but there are more in-depth instructions on their club website that augment the ones provided

Loved the variety of window finishes, for a flat representation of gazed windows they are very convincing. Justin, get the shell updated and this will continue to be a very worthy kit

Low relief 1930s factory

A great kit, turned out very well. Make sure to read and understand the instructions. As a beginner I had to re check the instructions on few occasions to make sure I understood it, but very happy with the finished product.

My apologies for the late response as I have just started building the kit. As far as it goes the kit is fine but I have got to part 22 on the assembly instructions and do not understand what wraps to what and how. Is there a video of the build of this section please.

Pre cut version of 30s low relief factory

This is a great kit with lots of detail and is easy to build. The print outs that you stick on are photo realistic and all look very good. I particularly like the window details. Beware of completely finishing some wall sections all in one go as a number of them need final flaps left sticking out until joined to another piece. The instructions do explain this but I found it easy to miss (my fault). Some might find the final finish a little shiny but as it’s a low relief building it will be at the back of the layout, plus it can be easily finished off with some matt spray or weathering if it is too much for some. I’ve left mine as is at the moment. Definitely recommend.

Useful background enhancement

This will look great as part of an industrial background. The one in the photo is the original one I purchased in 2020, built in in an afternoon, thanks to lockdown! Planning to use new one with original plus modified version, I also have bought downloadable version, to make a backscene for 1960 ish steam diorama.
